Upgrading Exhibition Street’s Public Realm

GP Bluestone delivered major streetscape works for the City of Melbourne, improving pedestrian safety, public amenity and urban presentation across one of the CBD’s busiest cultural and hospitality precincts.

Project: Exhibition Street Streetscaping works

Client: City of Melbourne

Work Description:

GP Bluestone successfully delivered major streetscape upgrades along Exhibition Street, improving pedestrian safety and public amenity in one of Melbourne’s busiest cultural and hospitality precincts. The works spanned key frontages including the Rydges and Marriott Hotels, and the Comedy and Her Majesty’s Theatres.

Our scope included full pavement reconstruction with new bluestone footpaths and raised bicycle paths, demolition and disposal of existing road and footpath surfaces, installation of new garden beds with irrigation, stormwater upgrades, and provision of electrical infrastructure for future events. Custom street furniture, new tree plots, and road resurfacing with line marking completed the transformation.

Works were delivered in tight stages, maintaining continuous access to surrounding properties and coordinating with stakeholders to minimise disruption. A combination of day and night works ensured smooth progress through Melbourne’s busy CBD.

This project reflects our ability to deliver high-quality urban infrastructure upgrades in live city environments while maintaining strict compliance with safety, heritage, and stakeholder requirements.
